The state-owned gas companies have proposed up to 100pc hike in gas price for the next fiscal year applicable from July 1 The surge is expected to collectively put an additional burden of Rs347 billion on consumers. According to a report, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has proposed a 20pc increase in the basic price of gas, which will make it Rs153 per MBTU (million British thermal units) costlier. Resultantly, SSGC consumers will bear an additional amount of Rs57 billion. On the other hand, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has proposed a 100pc hike in basic price of gas, making it Rs670 per MBTU more expensive. As a result, SNGPL consumers will bear an additional amount of Rs290 billion.
