The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group increased by 0.71% during the week ended Mar 12, 2020 while the SPI increased by 12.40% compared to the corresponding period from last year. According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 129.66 compared to 128.74 on Mar 05, 2020 while the index was recorded at 115.36 a year ago, on Mar 13, 2019 Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 14 items increased, 9 items decreased whereas 28 items registered no change during the week. The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 0.66% and 0.78%. The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.75% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.66%. On an yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 10.87% and 14.91%. Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 11.41% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 12.25%. The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs.1694 per 50 kg bag which is 0.65% lower than last week’s price and 5.63% lower when compared to last year. Meanwhile, average Cement price was recorded at Rs.540 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.19% higher than the previous week and 10.3% lower than prices last year.

Engro employees who were earlier in contact with the victim test negative for Covid-19

Engro Corporation Limited in its latest Press Release has informed that the employees who were in contact with their colleague affected by the COVID-19 ، undertook the lab test and tested negative for the virus. “On Tuesday (March 11), a few Engro employees who were in contact with their colleague affected by the Coronavirus COVID-19 – undertook the lab test. Results show that all of them have tested negative for the COVID-19 and they have been given a clear bill of health by doctors” the press release said. “The Engro employee who earlier tested positive for the virus is doing well at a local medical facility. Govt to provide Rs 400m subsidy to farmers on PB Rope import

The government will provide 400 million rupees subsidy to framers on the import of PB Rope from the current cotton sowing season. According to Cotton Commissioner in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research Dr Khalid Abdullah، subsidy for PB Rope imports for about 2,00,000 hectares would be provided to help overcome threats of pest attacks on crop during its fruiting season and save the crop from damage. He said the amount is being allocated to enhance per-acre cotton output across the crop sowing areas of the country. Cotton Commissioner informed that government in close coordination with private sector had also designed a holistic program to ensure provision of certified cotton seed to farmers in order to achieve maximum per acre crop output during the season and get more profit.
